02 Frequently Asked

Questions we get every season.

How much is a deposit and what does it hold?

A $1,000 deposit is required to hold a spot for deer or antelope. A 50% deposit is required to hold a spot for turkey, upland birds, predators, varmints and bison. We book hunts in order of receipt of deposit.

If you don't draw in year one, or don't like the options presented to you, we will roll your deposit into the following year.

What is your cancellation policy?

Should you need to cancel your booking, your deposit will be non-refundable. However, you can transfer your deposit to another available date at the discretion of the outfitter. We will make reasonable efforts to find a suitable alternative date, but rescheduling is not guaranteed and depends on availability.

How does the tag and application process work?

We can manage all of your South Dakota and tribal point purchases and applications for deer, antelope and turkey, or we can walk you through the process. Our full-service tag application program is $250 per hunter for your first year and $100 each additional year.

Apply for tags between March and July. We book specific dates, guides and ranch or reservation hunts once all tags are drawn in late summer, in order of receipt of deposit. You only have to pay for the tag you choose to hunt.

See the Licensing & Tags page for tribal tag costs and season dates by reservation, plus links to the state draw statistics.

Are there trophy fees?

No. There are no trophy fees, ever, on any hunt we offer. Prices vary based on ranch or reservation, what's included, guide, and duration — never on the size of the animal you harvest.

What is not included in the hunt price?

Prices do not include 5.7% South Dakota sales tax or gratuity, and online payments carry a 3% convenience fee. Tags and licenses are purchased separately. Lodging and meals are not included unless specifically noted on a particular hunt, though both are available on all hunts and are custom matched to budget and preference.

What are lodging and meal options?

Accommodations generally cost between $65 and $250 a night. We can provide all of your meals, or some, for a fee. Bison hunts on the private ranch include two nights of ranch house lodging and five home-cooked meals. Kayak expeditions include double-occupancy Inn or B&B lodging and all meals.

Groups of four get free on-site cabin lodging on Pine Ridge prairie dog hunts, and the Pine Ridge tribal antelope rifle hunt includes on-site cabin lodging.

Which airport should I fly into?

Rapid City and Pierre are likely your two best options for flights. We will help coordinate all elements of your hunt once tags are in hand and we know where you will be hunting.

Do you mix camps or run large groups?

No. We run 1:1 or 2:1 client-to-guide ratio hunts and we never mix camps with outside hunters. Our attention is on you and your hunt alone.

How successful are your hunts?

Since 2018 we have run a 95% opportunity rate and an 85% kill rate on mature animals on rifle hunts, and 80% of our clients return within two years.

Big game hunts are generally for 150–170" mule deer, 150–170" whitetails with a chance at bigger, and 65–80" pronghorn. We can't guarantee success, but we work hard to ensure the best experience and as many opportunities as possible.

What should I bring?

Bring weather-appropriate layers for open prairie and badlands country, broken-in boots, your rifle or bow with plenty of ammunition or arrows, optics, and a valid license and tag. For fishing trips, bait and equipment are provided — bring your own lunch and beverages. For prairie dog hunts, fully guided options are outfitted with shooting benches, mats, bags, shelter and lunch.

Contact us for a species and season specific gear list once your hunt is confirmed.

Can I bring non-hunting guests, or my family?

Yes. Many of our offerings are kid friendly and work well for families — particularly Missouri River fishing, prairie dog hunts, kayak expeditions and the ranch experiences. Let us know your group's makeup when you inquire and we'll build something that fits.

What happens to my meat, hide and horns?

You keep the meat on every hunt. On bison hunts, field dressing and delivery to the processor are included; professional processing runs approximately $1.50 per pound of hanging weight with a $250 processor deposit, and a $225 rush fee will have your meat ready to take home with you. Our taxidermist will pick up your head and hide from the processor and call you for a consultation on next steps. Shipping is available for an additional cost and we coordinate all of it.

When should I book?

As early as possible. We book hunts in order of receipt of deposit, and mule deer hunts sell out every year. Archery hunts can be arranged earlier in the year; rifle hunt specifics are discussed and decided once tags are drawn in August.

What is the final payment schedule?

Final payment is due two weeks before arrival. Plan to arrive the day before your hunt begins.
