Six rifle deer lotteries, four rifle antelope opportunities, four late tribal lotteries — and a full-service application program that handles all of it for $250 your first year and $100 each additional year.
There are six separate rifle deer tag lotteries and four rifle antelope opportunities with decent success rates, some with no or low points. That doesn't even include archery applications, many of which are guaranteed draw. Each tribal application is separate and not connected to other reservations or the State of South Dakota.
We recommend that every client who wants to rifle hunt a quality buck apply for multiple tags to maximize the opportunities we can provide. Give us a call and we will build you a tag strategy across the state and tribal lotteries.
It is free to enter the state lottery. The State of South Dakota will let you purchase a rifle or archery tag and then return it for a full refund of points and money if you draw a tribal tag in July. Returning a tag to the state carries a $30 fee, and it has to be back before August 1.
We handle all your state and tribal tag applications and save you hours of computer time. The service includes state and tribal applications, point purchases, tag strategy and application management for deer, antelope and turkey.
Get StartedState licenses and tags are applied for online through South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks, with applications opening in March. Current license types, tag costs, application windows and draw statistics all live on their site, and they keep it up to date season to season.
Have a look, or call us and we will walk you through exactly which tags to put in for.
Preferred tags: the West River Special Buck / Antelope tag is the preferred rifle tag. SD General Rifle (unit specific) is a second choice but will limit your options and is harder to draw. The statewide archery any-deer/antelope tag is the preferred archery tag. Tags can be returned to the state for a full refund of points and money if you're successful in a tribal lottery in July. There is a $30 return fee and the tag has to be back before August 1.
Each reservation has separate applications, tag allocations, regulations, costs and season dates.
There are four late tribal lotteries (May–July) offering roughly a 40% shot at an any-deer or mule deer rifle tag without any points at all. Each reservation has a separate application and lottery. You can apply for all of them and choose which tag you want to claim, pay for and hunt, and let the others go.
It costs $50–100 to apply for a tribal tag. If successful, tags cost $500–$1,500 depending on reservation and species.
